FAQ
Does JPEG to PNG improve quality?
No — and any tool claiming otherwise is lying. The pixels are whatever the JPEG still contains. What PNG gives you is a lossless container from here on: edit and re-save without adding new artifacts.
Why did my file get bigger?
PNG stores pixels exactly; JPEG was throwing most of them away. A photo going from 500 KB to 3 MB is normal. For web delivery, keeping the JPEG is usually smarter; for editing or archiving, PNG is the right wrapper.
Is this the reverse of PNG to JPG?
Yes — the inverse of our PNG to JPG converter. Round-tripping PNG→JPG→PNG works but each JPG leg loses a little; only the first conversion direction is truly lossless.
